The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 15:24, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: per the head article Sterilization (medicine), and to disambiguate it from the Category:Sterilization (microbiology) (article Sterilization (microbiology)).
These two topics are related, but distinct:
  1. Sterilization (medicine) is about rendering mammals (esp humans) incapable of reproduction
  2. Sterilization (microbiology) is about cleanliness through removing micro-organisms
The bare title Category:Sterilization should be re-created as a {{Category disambiguation}} page, and Sterilization (microbiology) should not be a subcat of Category:Sterilization (medicine). --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:51, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: no consensus. bibliomaniac15 06:07, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Such categories are best organized by the current municipality gidonb (talk) 17:31, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Marcocapelle, I had thought about that but prefer to allow the broadest people subcategories such as sportspeople, politicians, writers, musicians, given sufficient (5+) articles. The next level we should really leave for the municipalities. So basically my suggestion here is upmerge to Sportspeople from Zierikzee and rename to Footballers from Schouwen-Duiveland. gidonb (talk) 05:48, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your pings don't work, you need to @ me in the same edit you sign. GiantSnowman 12:52, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Giant, ok so what is the answer? gidonb (talk) 14:39, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Zierikzee is within (and therefore smaller than) Schouwen-Duiveland - so why are you wanting to move this? GiantSnowman 16:09, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Because all other Dutch footballer categories are by municipalities or larger. Never smaller! Zierikzee sticks out like a sore thumb. Is this different in England? gidonb (talk) 16:54, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, we categorise locally, as we should for the Dutch. See Category:Footballers by city or town. GiantSnowman 17:31, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Giant, you're constantly dodging my question after raising the England example that also supports my RM, while referring to a need to categorize "local", which is exactly what Schouwen-Duiveland would do. gidonb (talk) 03:28, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm not. You want to move this category from a town to a (larger) municipality, don't you? I said it is common and useful to categorise at smaller town-level, and showed the precedent for that. Why/how on earth do you think that many other categories that categorise by town is supporting your attempt to move away from that??? GiantSnowman 10:20, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There are plenty of towns with such categories but not towns smaller than municipalities. Your position is unprecedented for the Netherlands and, as you pointed out yourself, also for England. gidonb (talk) 05:35, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Eh? A town is, by definition, smaller than a municipality, and my example from England (and elsewhere) support my position ie opposing the move. Why should the Netherlands be different to how we categorise elsewhere? GiantSnowman 16:06, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Many towns are also municipalities. The smaller towns belong to municipalities with several towns. Zierikzee for example. This shouldn't be so complicated. Neither in England, nor in Holland, do we have such categories for the smallest of towns. gidonb (talk) 00:11, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. bibliomaniac15 02:32, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This is not a defining characteristic, to the point where the only Nintendo Switch games that to my knowledge aren't on the eShop are ones that have gotten delisted (ie the new Cooking Mama game, which had legal issues). Things were different on older Nintendo consoles – the 3DS eshop was not available when that console launched, so there were some games that weren't available digitally, and the Wii had little overlap between digital and physical releases – but for the Switch the rule of thumb is that games are available digitally, and some are also released physically when that is deemed commercially viable. AlexandraIDV 15:55, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Indeed, merge - I wouldn't be against such a category if they suddenly started to bring out physical only games (although, that would be the more defining characteristic), or if we had a cat for "eshop exclusive games". As it is, it's just the same as the other category with some items missing. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:20, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Pointless duplicate of its subcat Category:Nanyang, Henan, which correctly named after the head article Nanyang, Henan.

Nominator's rationale: The current title Morris family is a disambiguation page. There is no head article, but the hatnote in the category says that this Morris family is listed at List of United States political families_(M)#The_Morrises_of_Morrisania_and_New_Jersey ... so "Morrisania and New Jersey" seems to be he appropriate disambiguator. Nominator's rationale: This category is ambiguously-named (see the dab page Marbot), and it's also pointless. It contains only Category:Marbot family ad the article Marbot family, which is already in its eponymous category. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 02:54, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. bibliomaniac15 02:39, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT: only one article, no sign of expansion prospects (see its lone article Mahrajganj, Uttar Pradesh).
The category is also misconstructed: it is named after the disambiguation page Mahrajganj, but claims that its main article is Mahrajganj District. However, there is already a Category:Maharajganj district, so that's a bit silly. It's a subcat of Category:Cities and towns in Maharajganj district, so the main article should be the town Mahrajganj, Uttar Pradesh, but since there's nothing else to populate a category named after the town, the whole thing is pointless. Propose renaming:
Propose deleting:
Nominator's rationale: This is a bit of a mess, which I think can be best fixed in one nomination.
Category:Loudonville is misnamed. Loudonville is a dab page, so it should be renamed to match its head article Loudonville, New York.
The three subcategories contain between them only one item: Category:Siena Saints men's lacrosse, which is now already categorised under Loundonville since I added[1] Category:Siena College to Category:Loudonville. That leaves the three subcats redundant.
Deleting the three subcats leaves Category:Loudonville with only two pages, but the article Loudonville, New York shows enough scope for expansion to make the category worth keeping. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:32, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
